Jobs Going to China and India -- Is Your Job Safe?

I started reading the book Chindia which is about the global economic impact of China and India. It is really interesting to understand the differences between these two economic super giants and how they effect the Western Industrialized Countries.

What I found of interest was the types of jobs being sent over seas. It no longer is the manufacturing blue collar workers that are being laid off due to factories moving operations to 3rd World Countries, it is also the White Collar middle class worker who is finding pink slips on their desks as their departments are moved overseas.

Whether it is analysis, accounting, customer service, call centers, or design India is undercutting white collar industrialized middle class. They are highly educated and speak English living in a lower cost part of the world. They offer companies labour cost savings and increased productivity for some industries. They work longer hours for less money and globalization of communications and the internet means they are competing for your job.

How this will effect the Western World is yet to be seen. Immigration of these workers into Western Countries may be the safest way to ensure that their economies will continue to grow and not shrink. Hands on service jobs and those that will service India and China are the wave of the future.

Have you been effected by your company's decision to move operations and back office departments over seas?
