Stress and Short Term Memory

I can't seem to get it together today. The sad part is that today is not the only day I've had like this lately - its the stress.

The stress of moving to a new province. The stress of finding a place to stay. The stress of not enough money. The stress of hitting quotas at work and the stress of my son's educational needs. It's a little much.

Today I woke up after a good sleep and couldn't get moving. When I finally got going I forgot my books, then the kids lunches, then I forgot to drop the lunches off at the school as I flew by it. Every time I turned around was more wasted time, more frustration, and more exhaustion.

I love my job and when I was able to focus on it without distraction I was doing really well. Then I compared my results to others and that was mistake 1. Comparing for competition drives some sales people. For me it showed that my AVO was way too low, while others was higher. I was working harder then others and making less. Mistake 2 was letting it get to me and Mistake 3 was getting involved in the office gossip and swamp.

Moving was my husband's idea, he had it with the Calgary weather and with his business slowing down he decided it was time to head home. Change is always stressful, especially when you are moving 12 hours away and have 9 years to pack up. The deadline is looming and I am no where near packed up. Moving is also expensive and with my husband shutting down his income generation early it means I'm now responsible for all the household expenses..... and my 10 year old just had a huge growth spurt!

My son is an amazing child and his school is concerned about his future education. The calls to inform me of what he needs and how gifted he is are wonderful but also stressful. (see link for more on why)

Can I overcome it? Of course I can I always bounce back. I have to take a good look at myself and how I am presenting the product. I need to start eating healthier and getting some activity in my life. It all comes down to me not the training I was expecting to receive. I need to go out and find the knowledge to gain the skill set, I need to practice, and I need to move forward.

The only thing standing in my way is the stress. The foggy mind and the low energy. Can I change the course I'm on? I can do it, its always been just a matter of how! I am big on making plans, as my readers of business plans already know. With an afternoon of taking a minute and making lists, plans, and measuring results I will be able to turn this around.

Maybe this Venti triple low fat vanilla latte from Starbucks is the ticket!

Hats Off to Single Working Moms + Dads

My husband is out of town for a couple of weeks and I get to be a single parent. My husband usually takes our daughter to school and picks her up. I usually pick her up from his shop on the way home. I get our son off on the bus in the morning and am home by 5:00 when he gets home. When I have evening appointments I don't sweat child care because he's home.

He makes dinner and keeps the house tidy - I do laundry and clean on the weekends.

Without him around everything falls on my shoulders - I gotta say I have a lot of respect for single parents, especially the ones who have no help from a former partner.

Kudos to single parents you deserve a hand!

Becoming a Pro at Finding Work - Home Based Business Opportunity for YOU???

I'm becoming a pro at finding opportunities and applying for work. It is so time consuming and a full time job. Recruiters work to find candidates for opportunities and I need someone who works to find opportunities for the candidate. If I had any cash I'd find someone to hire. If you already have a job and you are wanting a new one hiring someone to find you the best opportunities may be the way to go.

So if you are looking to start a home based business, this might be one for you. Do you have good research skills? Are you intuitive and analytical? Do you have strong interpersonal skills and confidence to call and talk to anyone?

Where would you advertise? Online is free or at least cheap, job board forums, blogs, and advertising sites like kijiji. Networking is a wonderful way to find clients by word of mouth. Classified Ads in Newspapers would put you in front of your target audience but can be expensive.

You would need to decide if you were going to be a niche player or a generalist. It may be easiest to find opportunities and candidates in the industry you were working in.

It would have to be organized and set up as a service for candidates and paid for by candidates, NOT companies. Recruiting agencies concentrate on the companies what I'm proposing to you is a company that concentrated on the candidate.

Work from Home - Lots of Options Available but is it for YOU???

Working from home is a dream situation to many individuals but is it for you? You see the pictures of moms with their babies on their laps in front of computers and you think, ya that's what I want. But is it all it's made out to be? Working from home is a commitment and you have to be self motivated, if you aren't guess what - you won't succeed.

There are lots of work at home options out there, some good, some not. So how do you find the one that will work for you? First you have to know yourself, your passions and talents. Be honest with yourself don't idealize what you want to be, be realistic about your skills, habits, and motivations. Second, once you know what your about find a company that will match who you are. If you choose a company that doesn't match you - guess what, you won't succeed. There are more things to consider check out my article on choosing a direct sales or network marketing company, these are the two most important though.

Want to know more about network marketing companies or multi level networking companies?Reviews Articles on various multi level marketing or direct sales companies

When you work from home you have all sorts of distractions, especially if you have young children. You have to be able to compartmentalize your life and your children have to be able to understand that when you are in your office working not to disturb you unless it is an emergency. Your spouse or partner will have to be very supportive and helpful during the time you have set aside as work time. If you don't take your work at home situation seriously, your family won't so make sure you draw the boundaries right away.

When you work from home the condition of your home could be a distraction if you want to make sure it's clean before your start working. If you can't ignore the pile of laundry during scheduled work time then you won't be able to succeed. You need to ensure that you have planned out your time and you do what needs to be done in it's allotted time. If you keep putting work off to clean the house or do laundry you will never get to work and will fail.

A side effect of working from home is working all the time, it's hard to keep work at work when your home is your work. If your personal home phone is also your business phone you could find yourself answering business calls 24/7. Many people who work from home find they love the flexibility but they also end up working more hours a week then if they had an outside office.

Working from home is a wonderful experience, one I've been fortunate to hold in the past. My husband has freedom and spends more time with the kids, but at times he works all the time and misses out on the kids activities because he can't keep to work hours. He doesn't have to commute further than a few feet but his clients demand on calling any time to book an appointment and show up late in the day to pay their bill. My husband has a successful business but he feels he never gets time off and we have to leave the house to leave the work stress behind. When deciding if you should work from home you need to take the good and bad into consideration before you make a decision.

Looking for Work - Recruiting Agencies or Head Hunters

I've met with my fair share of head hunters or recruitment agencies over the years, most have interviewed me to work for them instead of offering me options. I am disillusioned by head hunters and have yet to be impressed by the service they provide. That said, they are a useful resource when looking for work because they have plenty of opportunities to fill with quality candidates. Trick is finding the one you can work with and trust.

They are looking for the perfect candidate to put forth to the company and when they find them they are hoping for a quick hire and a paycheque. Anyone would right? If that was how you got paid wouldn't you want it to be an easy match? Thing is when it isn't a match and either you don't get offered the job or you turn down the job some head hunters write you off, especially if you've made a taboo mistake during the interview process. Don't forget that their reputation is riding on your performance.

Companies pay a lot of money to recruitment agencies when a match is found and they aren't willing to take a chance on anything less than a perfect match for that reason. So if you are going into an interview set up via a head hunter make sure you are over prepared: Study the company, press your suit, get a hair cut, leave the cell phone at home and know the answers before you arrive preferably early.

Recruiters and Head Hunters have lots of positions they need to fill with highly qualified and good quality candidates. Remember, they are focused on the companies needs not on the candidates needs so don't go in expecting them to find you a position. You need to do your homework and continue to search job boards, newspapers, and websites for opportunities. You will be in the recruiters database but unless you are in constant contact with them you will not be a top of mind candidate.

Choose an agency that has the image you want to portray to the marketplace. If you are looking for labour blue collar jobs register with an agency that specializes in these types of jobs. If you are looking for a professional office position steer away from industrial recruitment agencies and towards agencies that specialize in your industry.

That's the great thing about agencies, there are so many different types. Whether you choose a general bit of everything agency or a niche agency focused on one industry make sure you work with the recruiter. Keep in contact, give feedback about the interviews you go on, call to see if there are any other opportunities, and make sure you know what you want before you meet with them. You don't have to be a star with an amazing resume to use head hunter services, there are plenty that will help you.

I've met only 2 head hunters that I think are really good to work with:

Nancy @ Tag Recruitment Group in Calgary
Paul @ Holloway Schultz in Toronto

Do you know any head hunters that are really good to work with? If so please pass on their names as it isn't easy to find the good ones if you are a candidate.

Women Give up So Much and Get so Little - Or Do They? WAHM, Work at Home, or Career Women have Options

I'm torn, I gave up my career to stay home with my kids and feel that I could have been more of a person with a career. Although some men stay home with their kids and most kids are in Daycare, the bulk of one income families are women at home situations. Even when both work it is mostly the woman who takes sick days and finds positions that work around their family. They compromise their success at work because they are unable to put in the extra hours. They don't look for promotions because of the amount of extra time, responsibility and stress would take them away from their kids.

Those that give up work to stay home make the biggest sacrifice of all, or do they. They may end up lower on the corporate ladder and loose the stimulation that work provides but they gain so much too. They get to be with their children when it is most important. They don't have the stresses of a dual income family and they know how to do without. Their kids benefit from the extra attention, love, and time devoted to them. Their spouse benefits from the extra support and reduced demands on his time so he can focus on his career.

If a women chooses to work then she must demand from her spouse that he help out with children, home, and shopping. This can be hard to get if you work from home and your spouse doesn't value your work at home venture. However, the work at home mom and the work out of home mom need spousal support or both work and family will suffer. I know from experience and have ended up burnt out.

Working moms are busy women who are often stressed and need extra support from others to help take care of their kids and their homes. Their spouse needs to step up and take on more responsibility for the kids and the home. If a woman decides to stay home instead then their spouse needs to appreciate all that she is doing to support him and the kids instead of looking after her own career interests. Visa versa if the dad decides to stay home.

When You Work from Home You Need to Get Out Sometimes

I have cabin fever, I need to get out more often. I had a meeting today down in the SE to check out a business for my husband and I was energized. I forgot how much I love being out and about.

When you work from home you tend to spend all your time looking at the same walls day in and day out. Working from home gives you the benefit of no commuting but sometimes it's just nice to drive to different parts of the city.

When you spend as much time as I do reading, studying the marketplace and updating online stores, websites, and blogs you tend to get cabin fever without realizing it.

I hadn't had reason to go to the SE Industrial Park since I was an account manager selling pipe, pumpjacks and freight forwarding services. It was such a nice sunny spring day in Calgary and the traffic was light so it was really refreshing.

When the weather is terrible and cold though, I do appreciate working from the warmth and safety of my home.

Summit Automotive is Back in Business and I Get a Reprieve

I'll let you in on a secret.... my husband is coming home soon and will be resurrecting his automotive repair business.

He is still looking for a business to purchase and the next few months will decide if he'll be expanding the automotive repair business or purchasing a different one all together.

My job right now is to find him a business to purchase. However, first I need to phone all his clients to book appointments and find new clients to keep cash flow coming in. The good news for me is that now he can have the flexibility to be here for the kids and I can find a position to jump start my marketing career.

I'm not sure how that will look at the moment. I miss working outside the home and I love working from home. I want to learn more about marketing in the corporate world, I loved being an account manager, but I love doing my own thing too. I've started meeting with a career counsellor to get a better handle on what would be the best direction for me.

Business Coaches are the latest work at home option for women. These women help business owners make decisions and assess all their options, even the most successful business people use a coach. If you are in business and have a chance to utilize the services of a business coach you should.

There is NO Easy Money, Working from Home takes Work and Lots of It

If you are looking for work from home options that will make you easy money and you can just sit back and watch it all come in, wake up ... you're dreaming. Working from home is nice but it's no walk in the park either. You still have to work hard, harder than if you had a job outside the home.

It takes hours upon hours to create a good solid base for your at home business. Once you start making money then you will have a lot more demands placed on you by customers and the administration of the business it self.

You will need to start keeping better track of your spending and receipts for tax purposes, bookkeeping in itself is a huge job. You will have all the administrative duties to do, no administrative department to fall back on. You will be the marketing and sales departments, as well as, the receptionist. Not to mention the time management that goes into keeping the family happy, the house tidy and yourself sane.

MLMs promise easy money, but if you are successful enough to have a recruits under you, you now have management responsibilities. You have to keep them motivated, answer questions, ensure they stay in the business and keep recruiting. There is nothing easy about recruiting people into an MLM.

Direct Sales has its recruitment aspects but if you want to only sell a product for extra cash you can. This in itself is work because you need to find customers, provide service and continue to service their product needs.

Internet Marketing, Affiliate Marketing, and ecommerce is a lot of work and the competition is fierce and your following fickle. It takes hours and hours to create the base to build on and adding all the links etc. Then once it starts to grow it becomes a huge beast to maintain all the sites, links, stores, etc. If you think surfing takes a lot of your time, creating an internet presence takes 10xs more time.

Working from home does offer up the flexibility that working outside the home doesn't. But it's not a walk in the park either. You don't sit around drinking lattes all day, you work every second you can to build a business that will increasingly make more demands on your life. I enjoy working from home, I love what I do, but I know it's not for everyone and I miss the office but I don't miss office politics.

Ambition A bad word for Women? or a virtue for Women?

I just started reading the book Am-BITCH-ous by Deborah Condren. I bought this book because it's red cover stood out and the name of the book was too interesting to pass up. So what is an Am-Bitch-ous Woman? The author's definition:

A women who:
1. Makes more money
2. Has more power
3. Gets the Recognition she deserves
4. Has the determination to go after her dreams and can do it with integrity.

Does this sound like someone you want to be in work and home? Would you like to learn how to be Am-Bitch-ous? Well, come along with me as I start my adventure to becoming an Am-Bitch-ous women.

Whether you own your own business or work in a corporate environment do you have the courage to speak up to raise your voice and demand your just desserts and not be considered a bitch at the same time? Women make great assistants and employees for one reason, we work hard and don't demand too much. Those that do demand end up getting promoted and feeling they have to constantly prove themselves so they work harder for less money and demand more out of their subordinates.

Women are their own worst enemies. We talk about girl power and women's rights and sisterhood but we then turn around and stab each other in the back. We sit around and gossip and judge other women as being less if they put their career as a priority in life or we judge them if they decide to stay home instead.

Instead of being supportive, encouraging and motivational we cut each other down. Well, it's time we reinvented sisterhood and stand together to celebrated all the wonderful choices we as women get to make. We can have it all, we can have our cake and eat it too, we can be whatever we want to be. There is no right or wrong choice for any women that's the beauty of it. Celebrate it and be as ambitious as you want to be in the role that you choose, then encourage, help, and motivate other women you know who make either similar or different choices.

Whether you have choosen to be in the work force or have choosen to stay home you will need the support and acceptance of your friends and peers. It's time to offer the gifts you have and demand what you want out life instead of gossiping and judging others who have fearlessly gone out, made a decision and demanded the most out of it.

Zija - Buy it for the Health not the Business

Zija is a health drink made from the leaves, plant and fruit of the moringa tree, otherwise known as the miracle tree. Business wise, it is a true MLM because you make money based on recruiting not selling a product. As you recruit more people to the business you make residual income. If you are looking for a product made of moringa in liquid form, Zija is just that.

If you choose to sell Zija, your health story will encourage others to try it and as they develop their own health story they will in turn encourage others. Concentrate on the health virtues of the product rather than the business opportunity. It is a business that will take time to build and more time to see any decent returns.

Zija tastes like watered down pinapple juice and green tea, it's not a horrible way to take an all natural liquid vitamin. The price tag is harder to swallow. This product does not sell itself, it needs your health story and the testimonials of others.

It's a good product in an industry that is growing as the baby boomers grow older. Health is a big issue and individuals are looking for all natural ways to heal themselves, Zija can fill this niche. If you are going to choose to drink Zija as your daily vitamin, then telling your story and sharing it with others to create a residual income is a nice perk.

If you are looking for a business to build quickly and replace a full time income, I'm not sure this is it. Each recruit will only net approx. $5-$10. You will only start seeing a decent income once they start recruiting. Zija is not a get rich quick type of business, it is a business based on a story that is spreading.

To get more information on Zija and the business.

To Purchase Zija

NOTE: I do not sell, nor do I drink Zija, I do not get paid for any comments I make about Zija. Please leave your testimonials and comments about Zija.

It is Not that you Can't Afford to Stay Home, It is that You Don't Know How

I often hear new moms say they want to stay home but they can't afford to. Really, I believe that it is more a matter of not knowing how to stay home. You first need to be really honest with yourself, do you really want to stay home or is it a fleeting wish because you actually would rather work.

I'm not saying there is anything wrong with either working outside the home, working inside the home or being a stay at home mom. If you have strong feelings about about one option being right over the other, are you sure you've made the right choice?

Every family situation is different, every woman is different and what is right for one child isn't always right for the other. For example, my son would perk up when visiting daycares I was interviewing before I went back to work. My daughter was very clingy and needed me home. Decisions were made based on what each child needed and where we were in life.

I found ways to earn enough money to stay home. Childcare was the most profitable and the most stressful, left me burnt out in the end. My husband started an automotive repair business that I marketed for him and he was in high demand before he decided on a career change. I am home with my children again doing what I can to make money to help make ends meet while he's up North flying.

What works for us, won't necessarily work for you. You need to first establish how much you will need to make to get by. Then you can start looking for options that will provide you with that amount of money. You will only make what you put in so if you want to stay home to play with the kids and have coffee with the neighbour and not do the hard work to bring in money then you won't. If you are willing to designate time to a business or a work from home job, then you will make money.

There are lots of choices out there. To check out some of them, go to the articles section for reviews on various work at home opportunities.

Are you A Zoomer?

I'm a zoomer, are you? Some of you may be asking about now, what's a zoomer? It is a Seth Godin term, it is someone who is quick enough to master a task and restless enough to try something new. True entrepreneurs are by their very nature zoomers. While reading the competence or incompetent section of Seth Godin's book, I realized that my failure in the corporate world was not a failure but a success.

How can not fitting into a traditional job be a success? I am by no means a 'yes' woman, I am an idea person. This is why I did very well working with certain brokers who were willing to risk their marketing plans and try new things. This is why management and I had issues. I can come into a company look at how things are being done and come up with ideas to shake it up and make it different to the marketplace. My husband is on the opposite scale, not that he's a 'yes' man but that he is a detail oriented organizing genius. He walks into a position and can have it running so efficiently that it automatically saves money. He finds problems, even comes up with some on his own, I solve problems and he can efficiently handle the details of a solution.

Zoomers are idea people, risk takers, and innovators. They don't flourish in corporate settings and should not apply to live in a cubical because they will wither away and start popping anti-depressants like M&Ms. Zoomers are flexible creative problem solvers, not inflexible by the book people. I always asked for a job description so I could understand what was expected, but I rarely stayed within its confines. If you want to be a zoomer use a job description as a diving board, not a box.

Zoomers need detail oriented competent people as employees or partners. Zoomers are not administrators or implementors, they are innovators and problem solvers. Zoomers come up with a plan, but they need people who can implement the plan.

As a self employed individual you must be flexible and it is essential that you are a creative problem solver. Self Employment by its very nature means you are taking on risk, embrasing risk and all it offers. However, self employment and being an entrepreneur or not mutually exclusive. An entrepreneur has an idea, wants to do something differently and takes on innovation and a higher level of risk. You can be self employed and not be an innovator. If you want to be self employed but don't want to embrase a high level of risk, if you are more of a manager then an innovator an implementor rather then a brainstormer buy a franchise. A franchise is a business plan in a box, a system of processes that has worked over and over for a particular company. If you are like me and don't do processes and systems well, start from scratch and be a zoomer.

Why Women Can't Rise to the Top in Business

Ever wonder why there are so many more men in executive positions? Ever wonder why there are more male experts than female ones? The answer is in the innate nature of woman. We are the glue that keeps the family together or at least we are the ones to pick up all the pieces.

In the past Men went to work and the wife took care of everything so that he could concentrate on work and do what it took to rise to the top, if he was so inclined. He didn't come home wash dishes or pick up the kids or even do laundry. His whole role was wrapped up in being the income earner and the handyman (if he was so talented). Need the lawn mowed, need the garbage taken to the curb, or shovel the driveway? Then he was there to lend a hand. Need a diaper changed or a dish washed, he'd quickly disappear, he had work to do. By having less responsibilities at home he was free to put his focus into his work and if he wanted to climb the corporate ladder.

Today though, both parents work in most homes, both have more responsibilites in the home and with childcare. Their focus' are split between home and work thus they are challenged to do either as effectively as if they were able to focus on one role all day. Houses are no where near as clean, dinners are rarely shared at a table every night, and too often both parents are too exhausted to put in that extra effort at either work or home.

So are we doomed to mediocrity? No but it does mean that both parents need to look to each other for support and each need to look outside of the home for resources to help them. Quality daycare so they are not stressed and worried about their children. A quality house cleaner to ensure that weekends and evenings are free to focus on other tasks, such as children and the work they've both brought home. They both need to be willing to help the other and both need to have a vested interest in each others success in the workplace.

If one parent only cares about their career and places a tonne of demands on the other without helping out the other then things will fall apart. For arguments sake, I am takeing the traditional route but in todays world the roles could easily be reversed. Since, husbands in most cases still earn more and feel that their career is more important, they don't do 50% of home based work. The wife has added chores with grocery shopping, childcare, and housework. Just going on a family outing means an exhausting day for the wife as it is her responsibility to get everyone organized and out the door. She spends all the time making sure everyone, but her, is having fun and behaving. Afterall, the husband worked hard all day and deserves a day of leisure.

If the wife is trying to make a successful career for herself, it will be difficult because she won't be able to put in the long hours. She will have to drop everything for the kids and if the husband needs something done. Her focus will be split, her ability to stay organized will falter, especially if being organized isn't a strong suit. She will be too exhausted to anything well and so over scheduled that both her career and her family will suffer.

In todays family dynamic of two working parents it is so important that both parents work together and identify with each other so both can succeed and the family doesn't suffer. The husband must take on a more domestic role and all home chores must be split 50/50. An attitude of helping, sharing and caring about each other must be adopted by both parties. Neither can critizie, blame, or demand from the other or else someone gets so overwhelmed that it will all fall apart.

WAHM Know Your Strengths & Weaknesses

For small business resources are limited and you end up having to be everyone, the manager, the CEO, the bookkeeper, the administrator, the salesperson, the receptionist and even the janitor. The problem is no one is good at everything, everyone has strengths and weaknesses. WAHMs have unique obsticals to overcome in order to find solutions to compensate for their weaknesses.

A work at home mom has a million things on her plate and little distractions to compound the problem. Those closest to her may not take her business seriously and as a result she may not take it seriously enough. A work at home mom is isolated and may have a harder time locating resources that are available to her to compensate for her weaknesses in business.

Admitting you can't do it all is the first step, as woman we may think we can do it all and don't need help. Got news for ya chicky, your strengths do not lie in everything that a business person must do and with home and kids it's easy to ignore that which you aren't strong in. Take me for example, I am not strong in administrative details, bookkeeping or keeping details organized. If I was a detail oriented person, I wouldn't be such a strong idea person or problem solver because the details would get in the way. Everyone cannot be good at everything.

WAHMs though are isolated and cannot always find the best solutions to compensate for their weaknesses and as a result business is harder than it needs to be. Many times business falls to the wayside and then dries up completely and she is faced with less money and may have to go back to work. So what can a WAHM do?

1. You need to identify what is holding you back from complete success, what is lacking.

2. You need to put a plan in place to compensate for these weaknesses. There is always a solution even if you can't see it.

3. Find someone that is good at ideas and can help you come up with solutions and compensate for weaknesses.

4. Find a partner, someone who is strong where you are weak and weak where you are strong and work as a team to build a stronger business.

5. If a partner isn't the answer find other resources. There are woman out there who have all types of businesses and are looking for a client like you. Can't afford it? Bartering may be an option or maybe you can negotiate something that will be of benefit to both of you. A longer payment plan or babysitting services in lieu of cash payment. There is always a solution, you just have to be able to look past the detail obsticals.

6. Find other WAHMs in the area, preferably from all sorts of different industries and work together to help each other. This is what Carennedy Solutions is all about, bringing WAHMs from all different types of backgrounds, strengths, and experience together. If you are in the Calgary area you are more than welcome to come by and see what its all about. Even if you are only thinking about becoming a WAHM and not yet in business. For that matter if you are an employed WAHM and not a business owner, you are more than welcome to attend too.

For more information go to http://www.carennedysolutions.com

7. Read, Read, and Read, somemore. There are some great books out there. I have a list of different business books you need in your resource library at my website through the store link.

Hopefully this is enough to get you started on the road to success. If you want to read more that I have written for WAHM check out my other sites:

It's a New Year Time to Evaluate your Business

Christmas is over and now its time to get back to work. So what does that mean for the WAHM? The kids still are out of school and you may want to take an extended break too. This week is a perfect time to plan for 2008. Your business checklist for this week should include:

1. Written Goals - an unwritten goal is just a wish
2. A Written Plan to achieve these goals - this is your road map
3. Review what happened last year - what worked, what didn't
4. What products or services to drop - if they didn't sell in 2007 chances are....
5. What services or products to add in 2008 - did anyone want something you didn't have
6. Books to read list -- I don't mean Harlequin, or Danielle Steel

That should be good for this week.... lol.... Are you feeling a little overwhelmed? Start with number one and see how much you get done, after all there is always next week.

My Week is going to consist of writing my goals, and working on my business plan. I also need to finish up some changes to my online stores and I just opened a store for Cafe Affiliate shops to link to so I need to promote that this week too. I will also be making a list of products and services to add this year and working on my astore list of business books to read this year. So I'll be busy, even with the kids underfoot. I'm not sure how much I'll get done, or how many sleepless nights it will take, but it's better than nothing.

More resorces for WAHM and for those looking at opportunities to become a WAHM.

New Years Resolutions for Your Business

Woman in business have lots of outside distractions and obligations, for those of us who work from home these distractions are more demanding and more urgent. With the New Year upon us it is time to start thinking about resolutions and how to improve business for 2008.

There are a few things I want to challenge all business women to do, especially those in direct sales working from home. First write down both personal and business goals for 2008, make sure you write them down. A goal that is NOT written down is a wish, not a goal. By writing down your goals you have focused yourself instead of going down tangent after tangent. It is so easy to get off course and add things that do not benefit your main goals. Now that you know the outcome you want write down how you are going to get there. This becomes your business plan, it can be that simple.

Business plans can be a simple plan on how to attain your goals and other times it can be a complicated 50 page document with financial statements and projections. Which you will need depends more upon who is going to read it, if you are going to keep it as a road map then simple will be sufficent. If you are looking for investors or a bank loan then you will be needing a much more indepth complex document. Every business needs a business plan, even direct sales reps who sell something here and there need a business plan.

What you will need in your business plan will depend on what type of business and plan you need, but there are some basic items. You will need to identify what your core business is, that which makes you money. Many women spend too much time doing things that don't make them money and not enough time doing stuff that will. By outlining what your core business is it will enable you to ask, "is what I am doing now going to lead to me making money?" If not, then re think what you are doing and find resources that can help you. You will need to identify what your experience is and strengths are. By knowing your strengths you will understand what you are good at and be able to structure your business to your strengths. You will need to identify your weaknesses. By knowing your strengths you will be able to identify what resources you need to find. A business plan is a tool to focus yourself and understand your business and what you need to do.

If you have made the decision to start a business, if you have invested money into it, why not take it seriously enough to succeed? There will always be distractions, especially when you work from home, what matters is how you manage them. By sitting down and writing a business plan outlining your goals, how you will achieve them, your core business, your strengths, and your weaknesses, you will have a road map to succeed.

What you Need to Know Before You Read my Blogs, Or Why WAHMs Should Read my Blogs

So you can have an idea about what I do and why you should spend anytime reading my blogs, I will give you some quick background points.

I am passionate about helping women make the decision to work or stay home. For some it is an easy decision for others it is very difficult. Many find themselves in a situation that they don't get to make the choice, they have to go back to work. I help them find resources and options so they can live the choice they want to.

Are you a work at home mom? or a women in small business? Do you spend lots of time and effort marketing and not enough time on your core business, that which you are paid for? Well this is where I come in. My company Carennedy Solutions helps WAHMs and WIB connect to the marketplace via cost effective unique methods. I'm kinda like the think tank of home based marketing. It is my goal to help women in business, especially with direct sales companies, to succeed by utilizing my 10 plus years of marketing experience.

My company is set up to offer those who are looking for more out of their networking experience, well MORE. Instead of spending time passing around cards and listening to someone give a generalized talk, we sit around and talk about specific issues to your business. I give a quick general presentation on business and then we talk about how to use the idea in our businesses. We discuss challenges each of us face and come up with creative solutions. Working from home can be isolating, but it doesn't have to be.

From this group I then organize cooperative marketing groups to pool resources and compete for a larger share of the market place together. I help organize events and create opportunities for serious WAHMs and WIB. The goal with these groups is to compete for a larger share of the marketplace and provide women an alternative to big box shopping.

I also provide lots of online exposure opportunities for WAHMs and WIB through my website. Whether you want to write a review of your direct sales company, or articles on your industry, or just put 3 items into the store there is something for every business women. I am constantly adding more options and opportunities so customers need to check back often or sign up for the newsletter to have opportunities come to them. To find out more go to my central website: http://www.carennedysolutions.com/

I have a store to provide cash flow because at the moment all my networking services are free. There will be membership fees in the near future but right now, noda cent. The store is filled with different items and I host Open Houses and have home parties to present them to the marketplace, not all the items are from official direct sales companies. If you live in Calgary and are looking for a unique home party experience, check out the Carennedy Store at http://www.carennedysolutions.com/ for options. More products coming to provide you and your friends a full shopping experience.

The only official direct sale company I personally represent is Latasia Jewellery. I represent other reps for other direct sales companies but only signed a personal independent rep contract with Latasia Jewellery. For information on Latasia Jewelry go to: http://www.squidoo.com/lataisa_jewelry or if you are from Calgary AB Canada go to: http://www.squidoo.com/latasia_jewellery_calgary_canada. other items I sell via direct sales I have bought wholesale. I am always on the look out for new items, the only criteria is that they have to be of high quality and a decent price.

That's my business in a nutshell, a large one at that. In the future I plan on writing more about the challenges of working at home and offer advice and provide you with encouragement and value. I hope that I will deliver, if you are having challenges in your business please send me a message and I will help you come up with an answer.
Until then.......
